Wintecare at Valencia Half Marathon 2018

For the second time, Valencia Ciudad del Running (the running city), prepared to welcome over 10,000 runners for the World Half Marathon Championships. These included over 300 athletes contending various titles through the streets of the wonderful capital of the Comunidad Valenciana.

Specifically designed for this sporting appointment, the 21 km along the widest streets in the city was without any sharp turns in order to facilitate runners’ performances. Decided on by the organising committee, the route started and finished in the wonderful City of Arts and Sciences, and took in some of the most symbolic locations in Valencia through the Ciutat Vella, the old city, and along the dry bed of the Turia River, today a huge green park.

Our participation in world class events means we are privy to anecdotal observations and able to gather data fundamental for improving our performance training courses. This allows us to customise recovery treatment and preparation for long distance runners who, with their specific metabolic demands, require different attention to any other kind of athlete.

This kind of event is also an opportunity to further the technical training of therapists who apply to join our international technical committee. From this viewpoint, having Francisco Javier Perez Alba as senior specialist, and Fernando Ferrer as back-up specialist, was a wonderful chance for specialisation.

See you at the next world championships.
